3 Simple Steps to Firewall Configuration for QuickBooks Point of Sale

Step 1: Assign Windows Administrator Right

  • Make a right-click on the Start Button
  • Choose Settings
  • Select Accounts
  • On the left panel, click Family & Other users
  • Select the owner’s name and click Change account type
  • Under Account type, choose Administrator
  • Click OK

Step 2: Assign a New Rule(Inbound or Outbound Rule)

Note: We suggest you contact your IT Tech person to add a new rule.

  • Press the Windows+R keys to open the Run command
  • Type Control and click OK to open the Control Panel
  • Click System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall
  • On the left panel, click Advanced Settings
  • Click Inbound Rules
  • Click New Rule
  • Select Port and click Next
  • Enter the Specific Local Port Number
  • Click Next and select Allow the connection
  • Click Next and Finish

Step 3: Add or Exclude files from Third-Party security programs

We explain the steps below using Microsoft’s built-in antivirus software called “Microsoft Defender Antivirus”. You can contact your antivirus software provider to add or exclude the files.

  • Make a right-click on the Start Button
  • Choose Settings
  • Go to Update & Security > Windows Security
  • Select Virus & threat protection
  • Click Manage Settings
  • Under Exclusion, click Add or Remove exclusions
  • Click Yes, if asks to provide user account control permission
  • Click + Add an exclusion and choose the type of item such as File, Folder, etc. to exclude from Microsoft Defender Antivirus to scan.
