As we know Quicken is serving from the past years in such a manner that give more efficiency to the users. Sometime users may face some problems with the software. So, today we are going to discuss “Quicken Cannot open the data file because it is in use by some other application.”

 This error occurs when you strive to open Quicken data file and it can be resolved by restarting your computer or by closing the application.

If a restart or reopen the application doesn’t fix this problem. Please follow the below steps

Simple steps to fix “Quicken Cannot open the data file because it is in use by some other application”

Windows 10 and 8

  • Open the File Explorer (Windows+E) or Make a right click on the Start icon and select File Explorer.

  • Click on View tab
  • Under the Show/Hide section make a check to Hidden items (See an image below)

Now, we need to delete three folders CONFIG, DATA & LOG. To do that

  • Go to This PC > Local Disk (C:) > ProgramData > Intuit > Quicken
  • Make a right click on each folder (CONFIG, DATA, and LOG) and click on Delete
  • If the system asks to delete the file, click on Yes to confirm

Windows 7

  • Click on Windows Start Icon
  • Select Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization
  • Select Folder Option
  • Click on View
  • In the Advanced settings choose Hidden Files and Folder
  • Choose Show hidden files, folders and drives
  • Click Apply and OK

Now we need to delete three folders CONFIG, DATA & LOG from the system.

  • Click on Start icon
  • Select Computer
  • Under the Hard Disk Drives click on Local Disk (C:)
  • Go for Program Data > Users > (User Name) > App Data > Roaming > Intuit > Quicken
  • Make a right click on each folder (CONFIG, DATA, and LOG) and click on Delete
  • If the system asks to delete the file, click on Yes to confirm
