6 Simple Steps to Fix QuickBooks Has Stopped Working

Step 1: Download and Install QuickBooks Tool Hub

  • Download QuickBooks Tool Hub and go to your download by pressing CTRL+J
  • Under your downloads list click on QuickBooksToolsHub.exe
  • Click Yes to allow this app to make changes
  • Now click on Next to install it and then click Yes again for accepting the license agreement
  • Click on Next and then Install (It may take some time)
  • Once the installation is complete click on Finish
  • Now open QuickBooks Tool Hub (Icon will be available on your desktop)

Step 2: Download and Run Quick Fix My Program

  • Once QuickBooks Tool Hub is installed
  • Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub (Icon will be available on your desktop)
  • Go to Program Problems tab and click on the Quick Fix my Program
  • It may take some time and then open the company file

Step 3: Download QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool

QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool helps to fix Microsoft component automatically that QuickBooks use.

  • Download QuickBooks Tool Hub and go to your download by pressing CTRL+J
  • Under your downloads list click on QuickBooksToolsHub.exe
  • Click Yes to allow this app to make changes
  • Now click on Next to install it and then click Yes again for accepting the license agreement
  • Click on Next and then Install (It may take some time)
  • Once the installation is complete click on Finish
  • Now open QuickBooks Tool Hub (Icon will be available on your desktop)
  • Go to Installation Issues tab and click on the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool

  • Once it’s configured, click on Yes to accept the license agreement
  • Click Proceed to start repairs on your QuickBooks desktop components.

Step 4: Rename the QBWUSER.ini File

If your QBWUSER.INI file is damaged or missing it can be resolved by renaming it. To rename it.

  • Open File Explorer (Ctrl+E)
  • Navigate to C:\Users\[Your Username]\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks 20XX. XX represent the QuickBooks version year such as QuickBooks 2018, 2019 etc.
  • Make a right-click on QBWUSER and select Rename
  • Add .OLD at the end of QBWUSER. It may look like QBWUSER.OLD

Delete your Entitlement File too

  • Press Windows+ R together to open Run
  • Enter C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8. If not found look for C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6 and click OK
  • Then make a right-click on EntitementDataStore.ecml and click Delete and then Yes
  • Now reopen QuickBooks

If QuickBooks is open after following Step 3 make sure to open the Sample file first, If you can open the sample file and unable to open your own company file. Please move your company file to another location and open it from there.

If you’re unable to open your company file from the new location it means your file may be corrupted, try to restore a recent backup.

If QuickBooks still won’t open and have QuickBooks Has Stopped Working error, it means your QuickBooks installation is damaged.

Step 5: Reinstall QuickBooks Using Clean Install

This tool helps you to remove the existing files and folders that have QuickBooks installation files.

Quick Note: This tool doesn’t work with QuickBooks 2020

Uninstall QuickBooks Program

  • Press Windows+R keys together to open a Run
  • Type appwiz.cpl and click OK
  • Under Programs and Features select QuickBooks and click Uninstall
  • Click Yes, If prompts you
  • Click Next and choose Remove
  • Then Next and then Remove
  • It may take some time to uninstall QuickBooks from your computer
  • Once installation wizard successfully uninstalled QuickBooks, click Finish

Reinstall QuickBooks using Clean Install Tool

  1. Download and Install QuickBooks Tools Hub
  2. Then make a double click on QuickBooks Tool hub icon on the desktop
  3. If asks, click on Yes
  4. Once QuickBooks Tool Hub is open click on Installation Issues
  5. Click on Clean Install Tool
  6. Then choose your QuickBooks Version and Product Version (see an image below)
  7. Then click Continue

Now you can reinstall QuickBooks desktop on your computer.

Step 6: Create a New Windows Admin User

To create a new user in Windows 10

  1. Make a right-click on Start icon and select Settings
  2. Click Accounts
  3. Then Choose Family & other users
  4. Click on Add someone else to this PC
  5. Now follow on-screen instructions to create a new user in Windows 10
