9 Simple Steps to Fix When QuickBooks Keeps Crashing

Step 1: Suppress QuickBooks Desktop

You may not be able to open the QuickBooks Desktop. Suppress the QuickBooks Desktop to update the software.

  • Press and hold down the Ctrl+Shift keys from the keyboard and make a double click on QuickBooks desktop icon
  • Don’t release the Ctrl+Shift keys until QuickBooks is open on your computer. It will open No Company Open window

Step 2: Update QuickBooks Desktop

  • After following Step 1
  • Then go to Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop
  • Then click on Update Now to the top right corner
  • Now make a check on Reset Update and click Get Updates
  • Once Update is complete, close QuickBooks

Step 3: Download and Run Quick Fix My Program

  • Download and Install QuickBooks Tool Hub
  • Once the program is completely installed
  • Go to the Program Problems tab and click on the Quick Fix my Program
  • It may take some time to run
  • Once completed, reopen QuickBooks Desktop

Step 4: Repair QuickBooks Desktop

  • Press Windows+R keys together to open the Run command
  • Type Control and click OK
  • Select Program > Programs and Features
  • Now choose QuickBooks Desktop from the list and click Uninstall. If asks, click Yes
  • Click Next
  • Choose Repair and click Next
  • Click Repair
  • You may get a Files in use window choose Automatically close and attempt to restart applications and click OK
  • It may take some time to repair QuickBooks
  • Once the repair process is completed click on Finish

Step 5: Download and Run QuickBooks File Doctor

  • Download QuickBooks Tool Hub and go to your downloads by pressing CTRL+J
  • Under your downloads list click on QuickBooksToolsHub.exe
  • Click Yes to allow this app to make changes
  • Now click on Next to install it and then click Yes again for accepting the license agreement
  • Click on Next and then Install (It may take some time)
  • Once the installation is complete click on Finish
  • Now open QuickBooks Tool Hub (Icon will be available on the desktop)
  • Under Company File Issues tab click on Run QuickBooks File Doctor
  • Click on Browse to select the company file
  • Select Check your file and network
  • Click Continue
  • Enter QuickBooks Admin password and click Next

Now scan begins, it may take some time depending on the company file size. Once the scan finished, your issue is resolved. If not, please proceed further with the below steps.

Step 6: Copy your company files to Desktop

  • Make a right-click on the desktop screen and go to New > Folder
  • Now go to your current company file location
  • Make a right-click on the company file and select Copy (Ctrl+C)
  • Then open your New Folder and make a right-click and select Paste (Ctrl+V)
  • Now press and hold the Ctrl key, ensure not to leave the Ctrl key until No Company Open Window is on the screen
  • Click Open or Restore an Existing Company
  • Select Open a company file and click Next
  • Browse to the desktop file that you copied in a new folder
  • Then click Open

Step 7: Download and Run QuickBooks Database Server Manager

  • Download QuickBooks Tools Hub and go to your downloads by pressing CTRL+J
  • Under your downloads list click on QuickBooksToolsHub.exe
  • Click Yes to allow this app to make changes
  • Now click on Next to install it and then click Yes again for accepting the license agreement
  • Click on Next and then Install (It may take some time)
  • Once the installation is complete click on Finish
  • Now open QuickBooks Tool Hub (Icon will be available on your desktop)
  • Under Network Issues tab click on QuickBooks Database Server Manager

Scan your Company File Location

  1. Head over to the ‘Scan Folders’ tab.
  2. Click on Browse and select the folder that stores your company file (.QBW)
  3. Click on ‘OK’ and ‘Start Scan

Step 8: Update Windows

The below steps will work to update Windows 8 and after versions. The process to update the Windows may take some time.

  • Make a right-click on the start button
  • Click on Settings
  • Choose Update and Security
  • Click on Check for Updates

Step 9: Uninstall and Reinstall QuickBooks
