QuickBooks Error 403: Access Forbidden or Access Denied

When connecting to the online services you may encounter QuickBooks Error 403 it usually arises because there is a need to apply some changes in the proxy server settings in Internet Explorer to connect QuickBooks Desktop with online services.

Create Company file Backup

3 Simple Steps to Fix QuickBooks Error 403: Access Forbidden or Access Denied

Step 1: Update QuickBooks Desktop

To update QuickBooks Desktop, hold down the Ctrl+Shift keys together and make a double click on the QuickBooks desktop icon. Don’t release the keys until the “No Company Open” window is open.

  • Go to Help > Update QuickBooks Desktop…
  • Select the Update Now tab from the top and click Get Updates
  • Once Update is complete, click on Close

Step 2: Open the Internet Explorer

Important: Internet Explorer is now an unsupported browser and has stopped releasing new security updates but it still uses by QuickBooks Desktop for the connection with online services.

If you cannot find internet explorer on your Windows computer, please proceed further with the below step to open it.

  • Press Windows+R keys together to open the Run command
  • Once the Run command is open type iexplore
  • Then click OK

Step 3: Change the Proxy Server Settings

  • Press Windows+R keys together to open the Run command
  • Type inetcpl.cpl and click OK. Internet Properties window will open
  • Click on the Connections tab
  • Click on LAN Settings
  • Under Proxy Server, uncheck the Use a proxy serverfor your LAN(These settings will not apply to dial-up or VPN connections).
  • Then click OK
