3 Simple Steps to Fix QuickBooks Error Code 1904

Step 1: Download and Install QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool

QB Error 1904 may also occur because of the installation of the latest Windows update. By running QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool it may help to prevent this issue.

  1. Download QuickBooks Tool Hub and go to your download by pressing CTRL+J
  2. Under your downloads list click on QuickBooksToolsHub.exe
  3. Click Yes to allow this app to make changes
  4. Now click on Next to install it and then click Yes again for accepting the license agreement
  5. Click on Next and then Install (It may take some time)
  6. Once the installation is complete click on Finish
  7. Now open QuickBooks Tool Hub (Icon will be available on your desktop)
  8. Go to Installation Issues tab and click on the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool

  • Click on the .NET Framework 3.5 Advanced Services
  • Then click OK

If .NET Framework 3.5 or later is checked

  • Click on the .NET Framework 3.5 Advanced Services
  • Then click OK
  • Now restart your computer
  • Press Windows+R keys from the keyboard and type Control in the Run
  • Then click OK
  • Select Programs > Programs and Features
  • Now click on Turn Windows features ON or OFF to the left pane
  • Click on the .NET Framework 3.5 Advanced Services
  • Then click OK

Repair .NET Framework

If you have .NET Framework 4.1 or later in the programs list

  • Press Windows+R and type APPWIZ.CPL into the Run
  • Then click OK
  • Now from the Program list click on .NET Framework 4.1 or later and click Repair
  • Now follow onscreen instructions
  • Once the repair is complete, restart your computer.

If you don’t have .NET framework 4.1 or later in the programs list

Sometimes users can’t find .NET Framework 4.1 or later into their programs list. In this situation, you need to download it manually from Microsoft Website

B. Repair Microsoft MSMXL

Now install QuickBooks and you may not face this error code.

After following the above 2 steps you’ll no longer face this error but in case it still exists please proceed further with the below steps.

Step 3: Change Windows Settings

Make sure you’re logged in as an Administrator. If not switch your user to the Administrator and change the user account permission.

To change user account permissions

  • Press Windows+E to open File Explorer and navigate to (C:) drive
  • Now click on Local Disk (C:) > Program Files
  • Then make a right-click on Common Files and select Properties
  • Now click on Security tab and then Edit
  • From the Group or user names, select Users
  • Then under Permission for Users
  • Make a check on Modify, Read and Execute, List folder contents, Read, Write
  • Click on Apply and OK
